Once a logging permit or concession has been finalised and issued, are citizens informed about subsequent logging operations?

No. The decisions that have been approved for permits and concessions, as well as their corresponding Forest Management Plans, are not published. Citizens are not informed about the activities of logging operations.

Is information on logging locations given to the public?

Yes, digital base map of forest concessions is available at the National Forest Authority, but this is not published on the website. Access to the map is possible through a request pursuant to Resolution Jefatural N º 257-2004-INRENA

Is there a stakeholder consultation process on individual logging locations?

No, There is no public hearing process for the preparation, approval and implementation of management plans The local actors have the opportunity to comment to the rights’ holders through Forest Management Committees. However the promotion and strengthening of committees was not prioritized by the National Forest Authority. Read more...
