Cultural services

Are citizens informed about any permit system or regulations regarding ‘cultural services’ (tourism or ecotourism, shrines, sacred groves or other historic sites)? Do the public know about any specific permits for (eco)tourism, or other cultural services provided by forests?

There is an existing legislation and regulations on this topic, which specifies that information on the location and extent of any Ecotourism and Conservation Concession need to be published before being granted both in the newspaper El Peruano and in a local circulation paper.

Is information on locations of (eco)tourism or other cultural services permits given to the public?

Yes, prior to awarding the grant of Ecotourism and Conservation, the information is published both in the newspaper El Peruano and in a local newspaper.
Some of the resolutions on grant concessions are available in the Forest Law Portal and Wildlife.
Information on the location of each of the communities is not published, but there is a map with all non-timber concessions in Peru.

Is there a stakeholder consultation process on (eco)tourism locations?

No, There is no public hearing process for the preparation, approval and implementation of management plans. The local actors have the opportunity to comment to the holders of rights through Forest Management Committees. However the promotion and strengthening of committees was not prioritized by the National Forest Authority. Read more...

No, forest management plans are not published. The national forest authority has not classified information as either public or private, although this is required by the law of transparency and access to public information.
