Allocation of permits / user rights

Is the permit allocation process transparent? Allocation refers to all types of permit, including those for logging, conservation, ecotourism, conversion, environmental services, carbon, non-timber forest products, etc.

Since 2005, no new concession allocation process has been launched until the decentralisation process is complete. During the period 2000-2005 the granting of forest rights was carried out according to Article 10 of the Forests and Wildlife Law, approved by Law No.27308, as well as in Articles 55 and 106 of its Regulations.

Do permits exist for all uses / services?

Yes, these rights are regulated in titles relating to land use planning, and management and utilization of forest resources of the Forests and Wildlife Law, as well as in its regulation. Is information on any forest land unallocated or not under any type of concession published?

Yes. 18.743,775 ha of Permanent Production Forests might be open to concession.7.115,368 ha were allocated in 2005. No new forest concession allocation process has been launched, because of the current process of decentralisation to Regional Governments. Read more...
