The full report card data collection is untaken once a year. This page therefore records significant changes in transparency, and new publications from the forest and other authorities in Cameroon during the year.
In 2010, Cameroon is expected to make some major legislative changes regarding the forest sector. The government has been on the point of signing a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the EU since June 2009. Once signed, it commits Cameroon to a process of implementing a legality assurance system that will guarantee only legal timber reaches European markets.
Implementation of a VPA will require reform of the forest law, and the first steps towards a consultation process for this reform have already taken place. Increased access to information on the sector, as well as greater participation in the legislative process and more opportunity for community forestry are civil society’s expectations of this year.
